What a summer we have had… the beautiful weather… the longer days…. time away with families and friends – it’s been a “keeper” and a Chamber of Commerce kind of summer. Now we are back to business – work, school, meetings etc.
I did enjoy a week’s vacation in late August as I headed south to destinations that my family visited when I was a bit younger (insert wink here). I spent some time in Narragansett, Block Island and Newport RI topped off with a visit to the tip of the Cape and Provincetown. Throughout my trip I kept noticing the similarities in the many downtowns and destinations that I visited. I am happy to report that our little neck of the woods, the greater Newburyport region, does really have it all. My stops were beautiful and quaint but none can compare with our beautiful and stunning beaches, rivers, downtowns and boardwalk!
On the last day of my adventure as I was gearing up to come home, I stopped into a local coffee shop and overheard the gal behind the counter exclaim to a local in a rather loud voice for all to hear, “I will be so glad when September is here!” needless to say I was dismayed that she was clearly over all of the visitors and our request for coffee. My thought was: “I hope that we never say that here in Newburyport!” I for one am thankful for overcrowded parking lots, busy streets and a packed boardwalk…. that will usually mean that money is being spent and our economy thriving!! So let’s all agree to never wish away business and welcome the good, the bad and September!
