What is Destination Newburyport?

Destination Newburyport is an affordable marketing program available to Chamber Members only. As a participant in this program, your business will benefit from many marketing tools (listed below) which directly promote your individual business. Your business will also benefit from being part of something more - a cooperative marketing program that funds the marketing of Newburyport as a whole.

This marketing program funds an extensive year-round print and radio advertising campaign which drives awareness and ultimately business to the Newburyport area. It also funds the beautiful hanging flowers and the fall and holiday decorations that make downtown Newburyport so special throughout the year - which is instrumental in maintaining the “brand” of Newburyport.

Destination Newburyport not only attracts tourism to the Newburyport area, but also promotes the community to buy local. To date, the incredibly successful Newburyport Gift Certificate Program has kept more than 1.4 million 
dollars in the Newburyport area!

Now more than ever, this cooperative program’s affordable benefits are a great way to keep your business “on the map.” As a united group, Newburyport area businesses can remain strong and get through this economically challenging time together.

Advertising in the 2009-2010 Newburyport Guidebook
Level 1 & Level 2 of Destination Newburyport include an ad in this 96-page full-color Newburyport Guidebook. Participants have the option to upgrade to a larger ad for an additional fee. Over 45,000 Guidebooks are printed and effectively distributed each May. Click here to find out more about the guidebook.

Participation in the Newburyport Gift Certificate Program
The highly popular Newburyport Gift Certificate is redeemable only at Destination Newburyport participant businesses. Sales have steadily increased each year and we are currently over $1.4 million in sales! That is over 1 million dollars that has stayed in the Greater Newburyport area! Participating locations are listed on the actual certificate as well as on the Chamber’s Newburyport Gift Certificate webpage.

Enhanced Listing on the Chamber’s Website
The Shopping, Lodging and Dining pages of the Chamber website are the most visited pages on our site - which boast on average 20,000 visits per month! Level 1 Destination Newburyport participants will have a highly visible Enhanced Listing on the Chamber’s website which includes your Business Name, Phone Number, Address, Business Description and a Link to your Website. Participants will also have the exclusive opportunity to display and image of their company logo or a photo of your business or products.

Participation in "STAY in the LOOP" monthly email newsletter
Level 1 and Level 2 participants can take part in this new email newsletter! Sent monthly to currently over 3,500 recipients (both to Chamber members and local households),  this email newsletter is a great way to effectively communicate with new and existing clients and customers. It will help customers and visitors "stay in the loop" about what is going on in Newburyport - and help participating businesses "stay on the map" in 2009. This email newsletter has a permanent presence on the high-traffic Chamber website - for continued viewing all month long and also provides a quick and easy way for new people to sign up for it. Requests to sign up are coming in every day!

Holiday Direct Mailer
Your business’ name will be included in a high quality full color collateral piece that is sent to households in the North of Boston region right before the holiday season. This mailer promotes Newburyport as a holiday destination for shopping, dining, lodging and visiting - and also promotes sales of the Newburyport Gift Certificate. It lists every participant in the marketing program in their respective categories. A great way to get some added exposure for the holiday season!

Free Participation in 3 Chamber Events
Level 1 participants will enjoy free participation in the following events in 2009: Spring Fest, Old Fashioned Sidewalk Sales & Fall Harvest Festival. These events typically draw hundreds of visitors and locals to the downtown Newburyport area. This is a great opportunity for local businesses to gain exposure, sell merchandise and market themselves to this captive audience.

"Business of the Week" Program
Level 1 participants will be given the opportunity to gain exposure in two ways during their designated week: A flashing banner with your logo will be displayed on the Chamber website (which can link to your website directly!) and you may also create a physical display showcasing your business which will be located in the visitor area of the Chamber office.

Extensive Print and Radio Advertising/Marketing Campaign
Each year, Destination Newburyport funds thousands of dollars of thoughtfully planned print and radio advertising to promote Newburyport. Print advertising appears in a variety of publications which have included The Massachusetts Getaway Guide, The North of Boston Visitor Guide, ACCENT Magazine, HarborGuide, Taste of the Seacoast, Lola, The Daily News, The Newburyport Current, The Boston Globe, The Boston Phoenix and many others. Destination Newburyport also uses both local and regional radio such as: 92.5 fm The River (WXRV), 104.9 fm WBOQ and 1450 am WNBP to reach potential visitors to Newburyport - as well promoting our own community to "buy local".

Downtown Area Beautification - 
The "Brand" that IS Newburyport.
Newburyport is known far and wide for the beauty and elegance of its downtown. Each spring, Destination Newburyport installs over 175 hanging flower baskets throughout the downtown area. This program also pays for the upkeep and maintenance of these flowers throughout the summer season. In the fall, Market Square is festively decorated with cornstalks, haybales and pumpkins. For the Holiday Season, hundreds of lampposts throughout downtown are decorated with greens and bows, and the Market Square Christmas tree is adorned with over 10,000 lights. No one can deny that the impact of these downtown beautification efforts - as they are instrumental in maintaining the “brand” that is Newburyport.
