The Newburyport Gift Certificate is sold at the Chamber office and is essentially a check. When a Destination Newburyport participant receives a Newburyport Gift Certificate, they can simply deposit it with their other checks and receive 100% of the face value, there are no hidden administration fees. The gift certificates have an extremely high redemption rate, approaching 100% from the first year’s sales. We also give the merchant the option to give cash back or a store credit if the certificate is not spent in full.

The Chamber successfully sells The Newburyport Gift Certificate all year long and they are especially popular during the holiday season. The great thing about the holiday sales is that they are redeemed at participating locations in the generally slower 1st quarter of the year. Last December we sold over $80,000 worth of gift certificates, and nearly $31,000 were purchased in June when people were buying for teachers and coaches. Their popularity has steadily grown each and every year!

Most Destination Newburyport participants can pay for the entire marketing program with the income they receive from the redemption of the Newburyport Gift Certificates - and therefore they have proven to be a very important part of the program to most participants.
