Chamber Staff and Board of Directors

Chamber Staff

staff_ann_2015Ann Ormond

President

978-462-6680 ext. 15

A 9 year veteran of the force, one might think that there are actually 10 Ann Ormonds…because she is everywhere!  She’s been known to frequent Rotary lunches, City Hall meetings, Chamber Mixers, theater performances and just about every social gathering in Newburyport.

When not working or watching any and all re-runs of Law and Order and yes, Dancing with the Stars, she can be found singing with the Reagle Players in Waltham, on the stage at the Firehouse and Leader of Song every Sunday at Corpus Christi Saint Bernard Parish in West Newton, MA where she re-charges her batteries!

Ann is a proud graduate of Emerson College and no she won’t say what year…  She has been accepted into the MBA program at the Van Loan School at Endicott College – she just has to figure out how she can fit it into her schedule.

staff_terry_2015Terry Thompson

Vice President of Operations

978-462-6680 ext. 12

All those things that you assume ‘just happen,’ are actually the work of Terry.  She works behind the scenes.  She manages the finances, operations, maintenance, and reeling in of Ann and Chris’s crazy ideas.  Believe it or not, Terry has been with the Chamber of Commerce for 30 years.  She’s a native of Newburyport and knows all the stories of the ‘good old days.’

Terry is a graduate of Katharine Gibbs Business School with an Associates Degree in Business.  She resides in Kingston, NH with husband Elmer and three boys, Junior, Dylan & Lane.

staff_chris_2015Chris Johnston

Director of Membership Development

978-462-6680 ext. 14

A decision was made that the office was in need of another high energy, customer service & business development guru to help the Chamber in its continuing efforts to regularly reach out and touch both new and potential customers. Ironically, Chris happened to walk in the door a few minutes later and he was blown away with the opportunities to roll up his shirt sleeves and get involved! It was a no-brainer… he had to take the position. He’s tasked with signing up new members and keeping them happy.  He also dabbles in a little bit of marketing.

University of Rochester is his alma mater and the Simon School of Business Administration is what is on his MBA diploma.  He lives in Newburyport with his better half, Grace and their daughter – Flinn.

staff_anne_2015Anne Jarvis Wilt

Member Services Coordinator

978-462-6680 ext. 13

The biggest challenge in the world would be to write Anne’s job description.  There isn’t much that she won’t handle for our office. From support for our members… (Anne is the one to call to get any answer to any question); to managing volunteers, coordinating networking events, tracking down dues payments, taking all the crazy phone calls we get and A LOT MORE.  Just like Terry – she’s been here for a while!  Involvement started in 1990 as a volunteer on a myriad of committees to helping out the Chamber staff to finally becoming an official employee in 2004.

Anne lives in Newburyport  and is a graduate of the University of Massachusetts, Amherst, with a B.S. in Physical Education….who knew!

Paula_Sawyer-2017Paula Sawyer

Communications Coordinator

978-462-6680 ext. 17

Little known fact about Paula – she is the only person in the world that was born a Graphic Design expert. Seriously!

Well, not really, but you might think that. On a cold January day in 2017, Paula trekked uphill from her home in Ipswich and entered the hallowed halls of the Chamber of Commerce and immediately tackled the monumental task of making sense of our email marketing, social media and print design.

Prior to her arriving at 38R Merrimac Street, she was mentored by the infamous Don Draper then started her career as the Graphic Artist and Studio Manager for Arnold Worldwide and various other Graphic Design roles (two of those facts are true and one is false). She is now where she belongs along the mighty Merrimack River.

In the few hours that she is not toiling away on projects, she enjoys being at home with her husband, Ron, and their Jack Russell Terrier. She is originally from a small suburb of Boston called New York City. Other interesting facts: novice violinist, Apple geek, art lover, self-declared foodie and…lover of 80’s era UK Alternative music.

Rock on Paula. Rock on!

Janet Cena

Events Coordinator

978-462-6680 ext. 11

You know when you go on vacation with a group of people and there is that one person that gets joy out of planning an itinerary (by the minute) and double-triple checks the details?  That’s Janet.

Luckily, we have her to make sure our events go off without a hitch. How we got her is beyond us! She’s been in the events industry for over 20 years with experience at Sylvania (working on little projects like NASCAR Sylvania 300) and coordinating major events at DoubleTree by Hilton. The icing on the cake is that she also owned her own small business so she understands the ins-and-outs of owning a small business.

Her resume is one thing, but her high energy, infectious laugh and never ending smile is what really had us hooked.  Sorry fellas – she’s taken.  Her husband, Dan, and daughter, Ashlynn, live in Groveland where they enjoy family get togethers, cooking, reading and riding around in their muscle car.

One other thing – she never stops learning!  She has an Associates in Business, just finished her Events & Meeting Certificate Program at Northern Essex Community College.  Currently she’s taking a Graphic Design & Photography Class and Non-Profit Management Class.

Everybody say – HI JANET!
