Frank Cousins to Be President of Newburyport Chamber
FRANK COUSINS TO BECOME PRESIDENT OF GREATER NEWBURYPORT CHAMBER OF COMMERCE & INDUSTRY
Newburyport, MA – Former Essex County Sheriff and lifelong Newburyport resident Frank G. Cousins Jr. has been chosen to lead the Greater Newburyport Chamber of Commerce & Industry as its next president, announced Board of Directors Chair Julie Ganong. The selection, endorsed by the Chamber’s Board of Directors at a meeting on Friday, comes after an extensive search to replace former president Ann Ormond who left in October. Mr. Cousins will assume his new position in early January.
“We are elated to have someone of Frank’s caliber lead this organization,” said Ms. Ganong in announcing the selection. “Frank brings so much to this position: his leadership and public service skills, knowledge of the region, business acumen and longtime commitment to ensuring that the greater Newburyport community is a great place in which to live and work.”
Cousins served as Sheriff of Essex County for over 20 years, choosing not to run for reelection in 2016 after serving three terms and credited with enacting significant reforms while in office. Prior to his appointment in 1996 by former Governor William Weld, he served as State Representative for Newburyport, Amesbury and Salisbury as well as a Newburyport City Councilor. He grew up in Newburyport, was educated in local public schools, and currently resides here.
“I am so happy to have this opportunity to once again serve the people of the greater Newburyport area, this time working closely with the businesses that really drive the economic growth of our region,” said Cousins of his new position. “The Chamber is a vital organization that does so much good work, speaking as a collective voice on issues that impact business, the economy, and the community at large. My goal will be to support the entire business community as effectively as possible so that not only businesses thrive, but the region as a whole, so that we continue to experience improvements in our overall quality of life.”
