Paul Broadnax Trio will open Maudslay Summer Concert Series

This year Maudslay Arts Center (MAC) will celebrate its 26th Anniversary season with a wonderful line-up of concerts. MAC favorite Paul Broadnax Trio will perform on Sunday, July 15, ushering in a new season with something for every musical taste from Big Band to jazz, from opera to bluegrass, from country to the Great American Songbook.

Ever-popular jazz vocalist, pianist, and Brownstore recording artist, Paul Broadnax comes to Maudslay on Sunday, July 15, to perform a special concert of standards with his wonderful ensemble. Known for his “King Thing” (Nat King Cole’s singing and playing), and the powerful influence of Joe Williams, Broadnax has appeared with many nationally recognized jazz artists including such notables as Clark Terry, Joe Williams, Milt Hinton and Dorothy Donegan, Alan Dawson, Lionel Hampton, Cab Calloway, Jimmy Witherspoon, Diahann Carroll, and Donna Byrne.

Broadnax continues to perform around New England and beyond with various artists. Twice nominated for the Boston Music Awards Jazz Singer of the Year, and chosen in 2003 as Musician of the Year by the Boston Musicians’ Association, Broadnax is a musical legend in our own time.
The celebration will continue with returning MAC favorites The Mystix Unplugged, The Hal McIntyre Big Band, Amanda Carr, Hillyer Festival Orchestra, Liz Frame & the Kickers, Don Campbell Band, Bobby Keyes Trio, and Donna Byrne.

New this year is Danielle Miraglia. Danielle Miraglia (murr-Ä L e a) comes armed with a strong steady thumb on an old Gibson, an infectious stomp-box rhythm, harmonica, and tunes ranging from heart-felt to socially conscious that will move both your heart and hips. On July 21, Miraglia will perform solo opening for The Mystix Unplugged and on Aug. 19, she will perform with her band Danielle M and The Glory Junkies.

Whether you’re sitting under the stars on a moonlit evening, or lounging on a blanket on a Sunday afternoon, the Maudslay Arts Center Summer Concert Series provides the perfect setting for your entertainment pleasure.

Situated in a picturesque corner of the 442-acre Maudslay State Park in Newburyport, MAC is best known for its outstanding summer concert series. However, from mid-May through mid-October, it is also a popular setting for special events such as weddings, corporate functions, educational activities, reunions, and more.

Since its beginning, MAC continues to operate through the effort of volunteers. All costs are offset by gate receipts, rentals for special occasions, and donations from patrons and businesses. No tax dollars are involved. As you enjoy this beautiful mini-Tanglewood, become part of our vision. MAC welcomes your financial support, your gift of time or expertise to maintain the buildings.

Delicious desserts such as seasonal cobblers, brownies, and Hodgie’s ice cream, and cold beverages may be purchased during intermission, all served by dedicated MAC volunteers, who continue to make this non-profit series happen.
