Newburyport Chamber Music Festival

Join us for our 17th Summer Festival!
This summer’s series revolves around one of the core works of Western music: Beethoven’s String Quartet, Opus 130, with its original Grosse Fuge. At the two culminating concerts and open rehearsals, you will also hear Mozart’s D Major quartet, K.499, Shostakovitch’s String Quartet No.11 in F Minor, as well as works by Paganini and Menachim Zur. That’s not all. We have wonderfully exciting non-Western music, storytelling, and puppetry in store.

Our original commission this year is by the young indie composer and violinist Fung Chern Hwei, and will be performed by acclaimed sitarist Indro Roy-Chowdhury. We look forward to that performance, as well as to a traditional raga by Mr. Roy-Chowdhury and an improvisational duo featuring both artists.

Hausmusiks, which were all completely sold out last year, are back this summer – perfect for those who enjoy interacting with musicians in the relaxed, informal setting of local homes.

Our eclectic programming doesn’t end there. In collaboration with Theater in the Open, we’re presenting three fairy tales through music, puppetry, and narration. These performances for “kids of all ages” are free of charge, as is our Family Concert, all three of our open rehearsals, David Yang’s Lecture on Beethoven’s 130, and the Custom House Panel Discussion featuring this year’s Festival Artists.
