Newburyport Choral Society To Host 2019 “Summer Sing”
Join the Newburyport Choral Society (NCS) members and other choral enthusiasts in a community-wide “Summer Sing” of selections from one of Joseph Haydn’s most famous works, the Lord Nelson Mass. The event will take place at 7:00 pm on Tuesday, August 27 at the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church, 7 Harris Street, in Newburyport.
This free and fun community choral event offers the opportunity to perform this beautiful choral work conducted by NCS Music Director Dr. George Case, with professional vocal soloists and NCS piano accompanist Dr. Kirsten Helgeland. Attendees may either sing along or just listen and enjoy the arias and the choral movements. Also, Dr. Case will be making remarks throughout the evening about Haydn, the history of the work, and the musical period in which the piece was composed.
Written near the end of his life, the Lord Nelson Mass is widely considered to be Haydn’s greatest achievement. The Mass includes lovely renditions of the Kyrie, Gloria, Credo, Sanctus, Agnus Dei and Dona Nobis Pacem.
Soloists for the evening will be Sarah Moyer, Soprano, Megan Roth, Mezzo Soprano, Jamie Hillman, Tenor and Dana Whiteside, Bass, all of whom have performed extensively both in the Boston area and nationally.
A reception will follow the performance.
