Port People: Meet Rachel Deschamps with Radiant U Esthetics
Winter weather means your skin needs more attention. The cold temps and low humidity both outside and inside make skin dehydrated and deprived, calling for more focus on skincare. So, what can you do about this? Enter Rachel with Radiant U, one of our newest members. We interviewed Rachel to find out more about her business and what services she offers to clients who would like a relaxing facial or skin treatment experience to help hydrate those winter skin blues.
Q: When did Radiant U open its doors in Newburyport? How is business going for you?
A: Radiant U just recently had its’ Ribbon Cutting Ceremony December 19th, 2019. We are booking clients and starting to build our clientele.
Q: Tell me a bit about your background and how you came to open a boutique skincare spa.
A: My background and prior education is in Marketing Communications in the Medical and Aesthetics field. In my last role at an Aesthetics company, I realized my passion for skin care and for the clinical field, as opposed to the corporate world. I decided to pursue a new career as a spa owner and Esthetician to love what I do every day.
Q: What is truly unique about Radiant U that is different than other skincare therapy business? Are there signature treatments only found at Radiant U?
A: Radiant U is a unique boutique spa that is a welcoming escape to anyone looking to destress and heal their mind and skin. We have a personable and positive vibe as soon as you walk down the path to the front door. One recent client said “you are all having too much fun!” The Radiant U Signature treatment uses organic products that are Eco Certified. It is also very relaxing with hot towels, foot warmers and massages all while your skin is being hydrated, exfoliated and infused with serums and essential oils. We even offer a Mermaid Facial for children! They love the relaxing experience and it is great to give them an escape as well. My 6 year old Granddaughter, Zoey is a huge fan!
Q: What is your favorite part about being a business owner?
A: Being a business owner has been a life-long dream. I have an entrepreneurial spirit and being able to drive the business from an empty space to treating clients is an amazing and rewarding experience. The best part is being able to have an idea and expand on it without having to get permission! It is a freeing feeling and I never feel like I am working.
Q: What is the most interesting aspect about your business that many people might not know?
A: All of the Estheticians are also certified in Chemical Peels and have a strong interest in essential oils and holistic medicine. We are varied in ages to appeal to everyone.
Q: What advice would you give to a young aspiring esthetician and entrepreneur?
A: Do it! Don’t wait! Take the risk and go after your dreams. Do not let fear get in your way or what others say. Trust your instinct.
Q: Are you from Newburyport or the surrounding area originally?
